Teyana Taylor did not come to play!!
FASHION WEEK
NYC Fashion week is to celebs, what "Easter Sunday" is to Christians; what senior prom is to teens; what a wedding is to a bride. Y'all get the point. In other words, celebrities prep all year for their time to shine during fashion week. There were many standouts, Cardi B being among them (another blog for another day), Nicki Minaj, Leslie Jones, and Rihanna, to name a few. For me though, I only had eyes for one; Teyana Taylor.
When I tell y'all that this 26 year old Vixen did not come to play with any of y'all, that's what I mean! She brought all the fashion, all the sexiness, all the energy, ALL THE BODY, and slayed the stage not once, but twice.
Here she is strutting -strutting is an understatement- down the runway showcasing a 90s inspired look by Italian brand GCDS. I normally don't love all white but the way this ensemble lays on her petite frame and contrasts against her golden skin is nothing short of spectacular. In addition, the black accents with gold accessories give a bit of dimension and mystery to an otherwise bland look. To add emphasis to her excellence, Teyana snatches off her fashionable, futuristic shades and whips her blonde tresses back and forth as she sashays down the cat walk. I am here for all of it!
For her finale, Teyana does a sort of "tease" for the audience as she literally flips down the runway, elegantly so, in a black lace bodysuit designed by German fashion designer, Philipp Plein. Take a look below.
And can we please just have a moment of silence for these BOOTS.... The lace trim around the ankle is just.... the world to me right now. Although, when I think of it, it does remind me a little of the dreaded socks my mother made me wear as a child. I digress.
I mean, if you are going to participate in fashion week, this is how you do it. Fashion is not simply the wearing of great clothes. It is the embodiment of the garment. It is the hair, the makeup, the accessories or the lack thereof, the shoes, and the energy in which you wear it. She came with all the above and then some.
Some critics described her as "extra" as if to say she was doing too much. For me, some people do "too much and not enough all at the same time" so, it was refreshing to see someone so confident and empowered, and rightfully so.
And lest we forget that Teyana has ALWAYS been a bit extra, check out her sweet sixteen reveal back in 2007 during an airing of MTV's "My Super Sweet 16."
I've always been a fan of hers. She is head strong, talented, in more ways than one, fashionable, and confident. I like her the most because her confidence is warranted. She owned that fashion show like property and for all the naysayers I say, get your game up so you can appreciate the brand that is "Teyana."
Teyana girl, you have definitely shown that you are a force to be reckoned with and that you are here to stay. Even through your "extraness," you gave us classic style channeling Janet and Marilyn Monroe in lace, leather boots, curves to die for and a bomb, blonde bob! Not like you need MY validation but, you have it. I can't wait to see what's next and until then, stay Classic!
~Liz,
